Kearsney Hockey Fives Participants and spectators were again entertained at our 2023 edition of the Kearsney Hockey Fives powered by Belgotex, held over the half-term of August 2023. In a festival first, 2023 saw the inclusion of a high school girls’ division to the high school boys’ and primary school boys’ divisions. This provided extra excitement for the fast-paced tournament. Thank you to all the teams that joined us to make the 2023 Kearsney Hockey Fives such a great success, and thank you, Belgotex Sport, for your continued and incredible support! 28th Kearsney Tennis Festival The Kearsney Tennis Festival, a highlight on the national schools’ tennis calendar, took place from Friday 05 May to Sunday 07 May 2023. The Foundation Department wishes to thank our sponsors, The SPAR Group, Sportsman’s Warehouse and Wilson, for their continued support of this festival. A special note of thanks to our new sponsor, Sanlam, for supporting Kearsney and the festival. One of the challenges facing all independent schools worldwide is affordability. How do we continue offering the outstanding education for which we have become renowned while keeping it within the reach of boys who would benefit most from such an education? We have always been a school that has “walked with kings yet kept the common touch,” and we wish to remain so. We ask you to partner with Kearsney to keep the College at the forefront of educational innovation,” said Mr Patrick Lees, Headmaster. Shantell van Jaarsveld with Paula and Darin Owen and Head Prefect 2023, Simthembile Mkhize Building the future of Kearsney College has been at the heart of The Kearsney Foundation through the Bursary and Scholarship Fund. 164 Kearsney boys benefit from the programme from Grades 8 to 12, and the fund supports 25% of the 2024 Kearsney College leadership team. Old Boys like Darin Owen and his amazing wife Paula support the Bursary and Scholarship Programme. Their support is both financial and as mentors offering guidance. When asked about the highlight of being involved for him, Darin commented, “Seeing the boys mature, and actually seeing them believe in themselves, that nothing can stop them on their way to reaching their dreams.” There are many ways to support the Bursary and Scholarship Programme. Donors can make a oneoff donation through our online giving platform. Contributing to or volunteering to coordinate your year’s class giving initiative is a tangible way to give back. If your class year already has a class fund set up, making a monthly contribution is a manageable way to give.
