33 Gillingham House Head of House report A Legacy of Passion, Inclusion, and Tradition Gillingham House, a prominent institution within our school, has a rich history of achievements, camaraderie, and a deep-rooted pride. While the House had enjoyed a four-year winning streak in the coveted Inter House Trophy competition, the past year saw a different outcome. This report delves into the essence of Gillingham House, and the House’s renewed commitment to inclusivity and tradition restoration after the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. The boys of Gillingham House are known for their unwavering passion and commitment. This year the Gillingham gentleman have approached every competition, event, and challenge with a determination that set them apart from the rest. This commitment has been the driving force behind Gillingham’s success and an inspiration to many of the other houses. In recent times, Gillingham House has placed a strong emphasis on inclusivity. Recognising the importance of making every member feel valued and welcomed, the House has worked to create an environment where all boys can find their place and be part of something bigger. This commitment to inclusivity reflects the values that Gillingham House upholds. The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted many aspects of school life, including the traditional activities that Gillingham House holds dear. In response, the House has embarked on a journey to restore these traditions, rekindling the spirit of dedication and passion that may have fallen away during the challenging times. To the prefect body, Fritz Rheeder, Michael de Beer, Dominic Hislop and Chad Croshaw, you have sacrificed countless weekends and fulfilled your duties without fail. You have stood as role models to many boys and have been wonderful mentors to juniors. Thank you. Mr. Prinsloo, Mr. McDonald, Mr. Edwards and Mr. Sookdeo - your contribution to the success of Gillingham House is significant. The time you have given up for the House has led to what makes Gillingham so successful. To Mr. Edwards - you will be missed by the boys next year and we wish you the best for your next journey. To Luca and the 2024 prefects, I wish you all the best for the upcoming year. I trust you will continue to uphold the values of Gillingham and be the change you wish to see. There is no better group of men to take this house to new heights. Gillingham House stands as a beacon of passion, unity, and inclusivity. While the Inter House Trophy was lost this year, the spirit of the House remains unbroken, and its commitment to excellence, tradition, and inclusion is stronger than ever. This group of matrics hands over the baton to the Grade 11s, and in doing so we have complete faith that they will continue to better this House. The future holds great promise for Gillingham House as it continues to inspire and nurture the next generation of young leaders, demonstrating that true success is not just about winning trophies, but about the values, camaraderie and passion that define a community.
