39 Pembroke House Housemaster’s report What a year this has been. The pride I feel as I reflect on the remarkable journey we embarked upon is little less than the feeling of South Africa winning the Rugby World Cup. Throughout the House, we have experienced the routine of our daily lives and the vibrant joy of shared experiences that make Pembroke exceptional. The pulse of the various inter-house sporting events reverberated throughout the House as we fought tirelessly from one event to the other. Although we have only a handful of swimmers, hockey players and athletes, we held strong and kept stiving till the end. The prowess displayed by our boys was not only a testament to their individual dedication but also reflects the strong sense of camaraderie that bind Pembroke together as a family. Being victorious on the rugby field, in the pool playing water polo, on the squash courts and flexing our muscles by winning the tug-o-war, created an atmosphere of unity and shared achievement of winning the AH Smith Sport Trophy. Beyond the playing fields, Pembroke also excelled in the realm of academics, where the pursuit of knowledge became a collective endeavour, in order to, once again, secure the top position and the coveted Parkes Trophy. The crescendo of our achievements reached its peak when the entire competition came down to the results of the last event, cross country. The successful outcome meant that Pembroke had not only won the inter-house sport and academics, but had also been crowned the Overall Top House for the year, winning the prestigious Veldman Cup. This victory is not just about trophies and accolades, it’s a testament to the collective efforts of every Pembroke boy who gave of their best and contributed in their own way. To my Head of House, Luca Veronesi, and the prefects, Jarred Christie, David Pohl, Ross Phillips and Francois Snyman, you led the House remarkably well. Your mentoring of the boys in the junior grades was done in a very supportive manner and you have laid the path for them to become proud Pembroke members. Thank you as well to all the matrics, for your support of the prefect body and for upholding the values of the House. We all look forward to following your progress in the years to come. I would like to thank my assistant Adrian Ryan, and duty masters, Andy Morgan and Jon Robinson - they too, were an integral part of the boys’ lives and the success of the House. I wish to thank them for the smooth running of the House and the wealth of knowledge which they bring. Thank you for everything that you do in the House. Unfortunately, we say farewell to Jon Robinson after many years of service to the House, and welcome to Mr Kwanele Ngema, who will be joining us at the start of next year. I would also like to thank the Pembroke tutors for their involvement in the boys’ lives. The advice and compassion you show the boys certainly do not go unnoticed.
