Chronicle-2023

SPORTS OVERVIEW SPORT Sport in 2023 was a monumental success. Kearsney College enjoyed unprecedented success across all our sporting codes, mainly due to our pupils and coaches’ willingness to work to achieve their goals. Our sporting calendar had many highlights and sharing some notable memories from 2023 is an honour. Cricket had a tremendous year, with our 1st XI cricket team notching up some hefty accolades. The team reached the W100 final this year, which took place at Kingsmead in Durban. Sadly, we lost by the narrowest margins against Westville Boys’ High School. However, later in the year, we finally got our hands on silverware after sterling cricket performances in Zimbabwe at the St John’s RAMS T20 final where we defeated Westville Boys’ High School. Throughout the year, our 1st XI team cemented their place as one of the best cricket teams in the country. The basketball programme continued to flourish with unbelievable performances throughout the year. Our U14A and U15B basketball teams both won national tournaments showcasing our incredible young talent. Water polo continued its upward trend with great consistency shown in the pool. Our 1st team reached the knockout stages in national tournaments throughout the year, demonstrating their tremendous growth with a young side. The depth in water polo can be highlighted by the fact that our U14A and U16A teams both reached finals in major national tournaments in 2023. Our water polo programme is respected nationally, and we look forward to further success in 2024. We enjoyed another full calendar with many great memories during our hockey season. One notable moment was reaching the finals of the Kearsney College Belgotex Hockey Fives tournament. All our participants enjoyed this highly contested tournament. We look forward to a competitive hockey season, both indoors and outdoors, in 2024. My report this year is a snapshot of the magnificent sporting results Kearsney College accumulated in 2023. This summary illuminates the great strides we made in a competitive sporting environment, and we are incredibly proud of our pupils and coaches for all their hard work in representing the College this year. The following upgrades were made to our sporting facilities in 2023: The upgrading of our cricket facilities on the AH Smith Oval with new grass nets; The Mason Astro was relayed, and a new mini turf was added; The SportZone and gym facilities upgrade is ongoing and will be completed in 2024; Two additional outdoor basketball courts were created.
