They played with speed and accuracy, which was unexpected at a fourth-team level. The team capitalised on their experience and dominance of the offensive boards, allowing them several second-chance scoring opportunities. The two games they lost were closely contested, with the opposition holding their nerve and staying ahead on the scoreboard. In the fourth term, the Matrics did not play, leaving significant gaps in the team due to the loss of experience and skill. However, the boys who stepped up learned a lot and, by the end of the season, were beginning to develop a playing style that suited the team’s composition. Next year, if the core of this group remains together, we can expect great things from them. This was the team’s motto. Each game, while competitive, was played in good spirit, with every player giving their all and contributing to the team’s success. Practices were light-hearted and enjoyable, as the boys listened to the coach’s advice. Despite the fun, they improved as players, and some may even progress to higher-level teams next year. This team’s positive attitude and sense of enjoyment could make it the College’s best-performing sports team. Unfortunately, several players were unavailable this year, which impacted the team’s performance. Despite this, the team applied themselves and worked extremely hard, significantly improving over the season. The boys enjoyed an excellent St Stithians Tournament, finishing ahead of many KZN schools. The team narrowly lost some games at the Michaelhouse Tournament, exiting in the quarterfinals, but arguably deserved a better finish than sixth place. In the second half of the year, some players moved up to the 1st team, and key players were out with injuries, prompting a reshuffle. This allowed new players to prove themselves at the A-team level. Although they lost a few winnable games, the team showed passion and pride on the court and can be proud of their performances. The depth of the Under 16 group was tested, indicating sufficient player depth for strong and competitive senior teams next year.
