still in the works. The boys have not only enjoyed getting back to competitive sport and being able to represent their school but also merely being able to get outside after all the restrictions we have seen these past two years and to shoot some hoops. Results: Played 5, Won 5 Ms Lethu Langa Coach Under 15E Basketball Regular players: Pelo Cindi, Babusi Gcabashe, Matthew Huson, Mpande Luhlongwane, Lihle Matika, Benjamin Millar, Inathi Nota, Matt Olivier, Jesse Ramsamy, Daniel Schneemann, Matthew Tucker “E” for Enthusiastic. My Under 15E side took the season in their stride. They worked hard during practices and, despite not winning a game, they continued to make an effort in each game. Even when opponents decided to play their C or D teams against us, the boys held their heads up high and gave of their best. I am so proud of them. Results: Played 3, Lost 3 Mrs Rox-Anne du Plessis Coach Under 14A Basketball Regular players: Cullan Abrahams, Kai Cele, Siyamthanda Duma, James Hastings-Brown, Jayden Jonsson, Sipho Majiza, Trent Marchand, Mvelo Mkhize, Othandwayo Mvelase, Hlako Rachidi At the beginning of the season it was hard to gauge what kind of team would be formed. However, the boys engaged keenly in the training sessions during the COVID period and worked hard to improve their skills. This will be the first U14A team to play man-to-man defence, and the players took to it with great enthusiasm. During the practice sessions they worked hard as a team and came a long way during the season. They made opposition teams uncomfortable with the pressure of man-to-man defence and were often able to grind their opponents down with the relentless pressure in the first three quarters, running away with games in the fourth quarter. There is still a lot of work to do, but with the positive attitudes and work ethic that the boys displayed, this group of young men will do well in the future. They can be proud of their first season of basketball at Kearsney. Results: Played 5, Won 4, Lost 1 Mr Khayani Nzama Coach Under 14B Basketball Regular players: Kgosana Hekandjo, Kwenza Mkhize, Mthobisi Mngomezulu, Jordon Naicker, Thabang Ramokgopa, Fezile Sokhela, Matthew Terblanche, Jamie van Wyk For many of the boys in this team it was the first time they had played basketball. Some found that it was more difficult than they thought, having seen the game played in the NBA on TV or on their PlayStation. They got stuck in at practice sessions and would often be seen on the courts practising on their own on non-practice days, working on the skills that were covered in practice. There is still room for improvement, but even the games the team lost during the season proved to be good learning experiences. It was great to be involved with this enthusiastic and joyful group of young men. I look forward to seeing how they progress during the upcoming seasons and wish them all the best as they go forward in their Kearsney basketball journey. Results: Played 5, Won 2, Lost 3 Mr Shaun Dladla Coach Under 14C Basketball Regular players: Nhlakanipho Hlongwane, Lefa Kgomo, Awande Luthuli, Katekani Makhubele, Mihlali Mgobozi, Bandile Mkhabela, Ndabenhle Mkhize, Tendekayi Moto, Dini Raborifi This season was a steep learning curve for the boys, as many had no prior basketball experience. We had limited time before our first game, as the Grade 8 boys had to isolate due to COVID. This aside, the practice sessions were productive and proved to be enjoyable, as the boys committed wholeheartedly to the process. The games came as quite a shock as the speed and intensity was a completely new experience. Although we only managed one win and a draw, the boys adapted and there was a great deal of improvement in their basketball skills and their team play in general. By the end of the season the team had grown in stature and confidence. With a few more games under their belt, they will be more competitive as their basketball knowledge improves. Results: Played 5, Won 1, Lost 3, Drew 1 Ms Dineo Fihela Coach Under 14D Basketball Regular players: Cameron Bell, Austin Clewlow, Kunashe Kamwendo, Kwande Majola, Kwandile Majola, Kenton Saunders The boys enjoyed their season, and there were some games in which they performed well. Although there were only a few boys in the team, the positive spin-off was that they got a lot of time on the court. As most boys had not played basketball before, this was beneficial. They were committed to practices and the improvement over the season was amazing to see. This was evident in the final games, played against tough opposition. It was fun to be involved with these young men, and I encourage them to continue playing the game, as they have so much potential. Results: Played 5, Won 2, Lost 3 Ms Monica Lin Coach Under 14E Basketball Regular players: Wandile Cele, Kwande Majola, Sisanda Makhathini, Ariv Raidoo, Lithemba Shabalala Despite losing all their games, the boys were enthusiastic participants who gained a lot from participating in some strenuous activity outdoors. I hope they do not become disillusioned and stop playing, but rather embrace the challenge of improving as basketball players. I enjoyed coaching the boys, and despite the losses, the games were fun. The boys enjoyed their first season of high school basketball. Results: Played 4, Lost 4 Ms Monica Lin Coach U15C vs Hilton College 1st team’s Robbie Jorgensen vs Hilton College
