149 148 The Chronicle 2021 Centenary Edition Under 15A Rugby Another short-lived season presented itself in 2021, much to the disappointment of players and coaches alike, as once again all the hard work done during the off season, creating a lot of excitement, proved to be somewhat in vain. We managed to play two matches and unfortunately, we did not have the greatest start to the season, losing narrowly to Michaelhouse 5-8 in a closely contested affair, seeing the play run from end to end with neither team giving an inch defensively. Northwood proved to be a massive force to be reckoned with as they ran rampant, scoring tries at will with Kearsney defence left in tatters. We wish all these players the best as they progress through the age groups and we also hope that every season from here on will be a little less disruptive. These boys are also encouraged to remain positive and motivated as this will certainly have a massive impact in their preparations for the 2022 season. Nevertheless, the boys displayed tremendous growth in the few weeks that rugby was availed to them. The first game against Michaelhouse was a tight affair. The challengers benefited from having previously had a few more physical exchanges. Despite minimal time to prepare, the Kearsney boys showed an encouraging amount of spirit and tenacity. The result could have been different if the game had been played a week later. The lead changed regularly in this seesaw affair. The Northwood team capitalised on the early errors and held on for a tough win. I am confident that once we resume the normal sporting protocols next year, the results will favour this determined Kearsney outfit.
