The Kearsney College Council (KCC) represents the boys of the College. The function of the Council is to foster the ideals of the College, to promote pupil welfare, to act as liaison between the boys and management, and to interact with other school bodies where possible. The Councillors are elected annually. The Council has regular meetings and office-bearers are sometimes called on to represent the College at community events. Service on the Council offers important leadership opportunities for pupils within the democratic structures of the College. Two boys from each Grade serve on the KCC, with the Grade 12s making up the majority of the Council, including as Chairman and Vice-chairman. Other portfolios are Academic, Culture, Sport, Houses, Dayboys, Environment and Chapel. The Head and Deputy Head of School and the Chairman and Vice-chairman of the Imbizo are also members of the committee. Mr Manzini Zungu Deputy in Charge At their two-day prefect seminar at the start of the year, the boys spent time with the Headmaster, Mr van den Aardweg, and Deputy, Mr Willows. They discussed the characteristics of being a good leader, the Kearsney Honour Code and some of the important values and standards of Kearsney boys. This served to set the foundations for the diverse, but passionately united group. The prefects spent time identifying their goals for the year in respect of their leadership roles at the College. Much has been written in this publication about the disruptions during the year due to the restrictions caused by the COVID pandemic. These factors undoubtedly tested the prefect body as individuals and as leaders and servants of the College. We are, however, extremely proud that they came through strongly. In this regard, we count our Centenary year a tremendous success. Headboy Rahul Paul and Deputy Mhleli Khuzwayo were exemplary in their roles. In their House reports, elsewhere in this publication, each Head of House has written personally about the young men who served as deputies in their Houses. The Headboy’s speech from Speech Day and the end of the year can be read in the Class of 2021 chapter. Mr Anthony Willows Deputy Headmaster Kearsney College Prefects
