Chronicle-2021

121 120 The Chronicle 2021 Centenary Edition Under U15B Cricket Regular players: Alessandro Ancillotti, Yuvaan Arbee, Seth Brown, Daniel Eagar, Liam Johnson, Matthew Lamplough, Connor McIntyre, William McKeown, Nathan Stocks, Joshua van der Walt, Alex van Eeden and Jack White It was an honour to be involved with this talented group of cricketers. On the field they played tough, uncompromising cricket with a real desire to win. During this season they played against some of the best cricketing schools in the province where they represented Kearsney with passion and pride. Unfortunately, during term one, because of the COVID pandemic, we could not play any cricket against other schools and had to be satisfied with inter-house and internal games. When we returned to cricket after the September break, we had one indoor practice before taking on Hilton College. Unfortunately, we didn’t perform to our potential and lost that opening game. The boys started to find form and went on to win all their remaining matches, showing real grid and tenacity. There were some noteworthy batting performances during the season with Josh van der Walt standing out, scoring 46*, 43 and 56 in three consecutive matches. He ended on a season average of 58 and a strike rate of 143%. On the bowling front, the spell of Jack White against Maritzburg College and Liam Johnson’s 4 for 22 in four overs against Michaelhouse were highlights. This team’s positive attitude, desire to improve and their natural talent made my job as a coach an absolute pleasure. I would like to congratulate Daniel Eagar (Captain), Matthew Lamplough (Vicecaptain) and Liam Johnson (field setting specialist) for leading the team with distinction. Results: Played 5; Won 4, Lost 1 Mr Mouton Badenhorst Coach Under 15C Cricket Regular players: Kyle Berry, Daniel Bothma, Reece Brown, Jasper Bruno, Anele Cele, Dylan Howard, Sean Mayoss, Matthew McGill, Mfundo Mthethwa, Pranav Sewsunker, Jarred van Staaden (Captain), Joe Verbaan Due to COVID-19, as in 2020, our season was cut short. This unfortunate setback saw us only playing cricket in Term 4. We started with a great season opener against Glenwood, beating them by 9 wickets. Then, we played against Maritzburg College and narrowly lost by 3 wickets. Our last game of the season was against Westville Boys’ High, and we lost that game by 30 runs. Throughout the season, we trained hard. Our practices were goaldirected and focused sessions where each player was given advice on batting and bowling techniques and tactics to ensure we were ready for the next game. Apart from wonderful displays with the bat and ball by many players this season, our games were characterised by positivity. We endeavoured to be encouraging and supportive to each other, and to engage our opposition in a friendly manner. Regardless of the outcome of the game, I believe that we made lasting friendships on the field and off, and that the boys will remember this season as one that they enjoyed the most. Apart from a few individual moments of brilliance, we worked together as a team and became a force with which to be reckoned. I would like to thank the parents for their support and the trust they placed in me this year. These boys have wonderful attitudes to hard work, which will only help to improve their cricketing skills, and this is, I believe, largely attributable to the support received from parents. Boys, thank you for the banter, for your dedication and for all the unexpected moments of brilliance. This is a special team that I will always remember. Results: Played 3, Won 1, Lost 2 Mr Adrian Ryan Coach Under 14A Cricket Unfortunately, COVID restrictions meant that the 2021 cricket season only started in September. Kearsney hosted the annual Charl van Rooyen Under 14 Cricket Festival and we managed to play 5 matches. The weather played a major part in the festival and all matches were condensed into T20s. This tournament was a real learning curve for our young, inexperienced team where the opposition from around the country had played a great deal more cricket. Unfortunately we lost all 5 of our games but we saw improvement in every game. When considering the superior physical development of the opposition we can be confident that this team is on the right path to developing into a fine group of cricketers. and executing their skills, and they deserve credit for the hard work they put in to improving their game. It was so good to see the boys out playing cricket again after such a long absence and there is little doubt that this age group has potential to continue growing to develop into talented cricketers in the future. Results: Played 10, Won 1, Lost 8, No result 1 Mr Matthew Savage and Mr Gareth Moerdyk Coaches Back row (L-R): Nicholas Munro, Bukho Hlwatika Middle row: Mason Hielckert, Hayden Dunsdon, Joel Steyn, Riley Nadauld, Cole Young, Olly Hind Seated: Nic Comrie, Mr Matthew Savage, Tristan Uys (Captain), Mr Gareth Moerdyk, Billy Keka Absent: Jason De Gryse, Callum McGill, Calum Skewis, CRICKET UNDER 14A TEAM The regular KZN season consisted of 50 over cricket, where we managed to register only one win and a no-result from our 5 games. Again, having not played much cricket over the past 18 months, the boys lacked match-awareness and we often found ourselves in good positions only to let things slip. The more cricket the boys play, the better they will become at negotiating tricky passages of play and will improve further as cricketers. Despite the scoreboard suggesting that this season was not successful, the amount of growth we witnessed in the boys, as cricketers, suggests that it was successful in that regard. Most of the boys made tremendous strides in terms of their cricketing knowledge, reading the game, Saturday 13 March - No inter-schools allowed Kearsney U14A played against U15B
