They turned up for practices prepared to work hard and they played their hearts out during each game. This was a very young team with nine returning squad members who will play next year. This bodes well for the future of Kearsney soccer. Mr Amos helped coach the 1st XI this year. His dedication to soccer at Kearsney is unparalleled and he is thanked for his tireless efforts and support this year. Results: Played 4, Won 2, Lost 2 Mr Dean Moodley and Mr Wayne Amos Coaches 2nd XI Soccer Players: Ethan Hughes, David Willington, Campbell Davison, Matthew Bergset, Luc Painting, Bryce van der Merwe, Tom Le Clézio, Jamol Langeni, Joshua Lee, Bakhe Dlamini, Bongumenzi Zungu, Kayden Robinson, Nicholas Kidd Due to the COVID lock down we were unable to play a full season against opposition schools. However, after an extended inter-house competition, the boys turned out in full force. With much competition for places, the players gave a good account of themselves at trials, making it difficult to leave out those on the fringe. The players were very responsive at practises and always gave their best, which meant it was a pleasure to coach them. When the season started we played attractive football but were unable to put the ball in the opposition’s net, which was frustrating, as we believed we were the better team. As the season progressed we got even better and eventually beat a strong Northwood side in one of only three games played. With several Grade 11 boys in this team, it is encouraging to know that their enthusiasm and hard work this year will lay a good foundation for them in 2022, hopefully allowing them to progress to the 1st team. Results: Played 3, Lost 2, Won 1 Mr Ndumiso Makhathini Coach A famous and hard-fought victory! With the team full of confidence, we made the long trip up to Hilton College the following week, knowing that we had to be on top of our game to come away with a favourable result. Unfortunately, the two previous fixtures took their toll on the players. They were run off their feet by a very clinical Hilton team, who, to their credit, played well on the day. The Kearsney boys never gave up and fought all the way to the finish. The following week we journeyed to Northwood and again did not find our feet early in a very physical game. The boys showed resilience and did not give up despite being behind for most of the game. 3rd XI Soccer Players: Kade Arnot, Oscar Burgess Baker, Matthew Crookes, Daniel de Kock, Campbell Duckworth, Ongama Duze, Joshua Gillespie, Lethu Gwarube, Ntsika Gwebu, Darren Holing, T’re Motsoahae, Ross Parkinson, Rahul Paul, Benjamin Robertson, Luke Robertson, Luke van Eeden, Wynand Vermaak This group of mainly Grade 12 pupils was a pleasure to coach. The team changed every weekend due to the pandemic and academic commitments of the Matric group. They played their hearts out at every game and always in an exceptionally good spirit. There were some great characters in the squad, which made it fun to coach. All boys must be complimented on their efforts during the season.
