With several boys in the starting line-up absent due to COVID-19, the group of boys who played did not disappoint. Even though we lost 1-2 on the day, the boys fought well. The contest was a game of two halves. The first half was dominated by Hilton, who scored 2 goals. During the second half we regrouped and rectified our mistakes. Our boys completely dominated the second half, and scored a goal, but unfortunately missed several chances and no more goals were scored. This fantastic group of boys is very talented. Despite disruptions when boys had to quarantine due to the pandemic, the players worked as a team. The team spirit was excellent and boys gave their best in every match. A big thank you to the entire team for their hard work and to Onalenna Nameng for taking over the captaincy from Alex Schoombee (who had to isolate because of the pandemic). His passion and organisational skills made my job easier. I would also like to congratulate Mfundo Mthethwa, our most improved player and top goal scorer, with dazzling skills in front of the goals. We trained hard and played hard and were met with success and failure – from which we learned. We began by winning an internal game against our U15C team, then losing to our U15A team the following week. We took on King’s Harvest Academy the week after and beat them 2-0 in a hardfought battle on Roberts Field in the mist and rain. This was by far the most physical and challenging game of our season to that point, but we managed to take our opportunities. Our last game of the season was against Hilton College, who have been fierce rivals for a number of years. We approached the game aggressively, aiming to attack with fervour for as long as we could. They scored early on in the game, but our players were not deflated. With two minutes left on the clock, we slotted a free kick into the top right-hand corner of the goal and celebrated as if we had won the game. It was a wonderful way to end the season. I thank every boy in the team for their excellent contributions. I would also like to thank the parents for their support this year. Even though the season was cut short, I had no doubt that we had your support. From the start it was evident that this was going to be a strong group, as the ability of the players in the higher teams filtered down to this level. Due to the COVID pandemic, we were unfortunately not able to play many games, much to the disappointment of the players. A number of internal games were played on Saturdays. The first opposition school match was against Westville Boys’ High School and the players gave an outstanding account of themselves, winning 1-0. This inspired the team who realised that they had something special as a group. Unfortunately, the pandemic took its toll, and we went without matches for some time, until we played Westville again. On this occasion, the opposition played well and we never took our chances. We allowed them a solitary chance, which they netted, taking the victory. The players must be commended for their “never-say-die” approach, which made me proud. I wish this group all the best in the future and I am sure some of them are going to move up to higher teams in the years to come. Results: Played 2, Won 1, Lost 1 Mr Bradley Beaumont Coach Under 15A Soccer It was exciting to finally get back to soccer, after a year of no soccer due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. In less than a week, at the start of the season, coaches assembled a formidable team to compete against other schools. Our first match was against Durban High School U15A, who were touted to be a talented team. Our boys were eager to compete. At half-time, we were leading 3-nil. The final score was 6-2 to Kearsney, with our captain, Alex Schoombee, scoring a hat-trick. Thereafter we had continuous changed in the composition of the team as boys were affected by the pandemic. However, the new boys who were called up, often on the day of the matches, did not disappoint. The team comfortably won their match against King Harvest Academy 2-0. On the day they displayed excellent teamwork from the back line to the strikers. When no spectators were allowed, some fans made a plan! U15 vs Reddam U15A Under 15E Soccer Players: Owami Hlongwa, Nathan Stocks, Asavela Khambule, Liam Johnson, Kemani Mabaso, Bonga Mathenjwa, Arthur Nsingo, Pranav Sewsunker, Clyde Westoby, Luke Emanuel, Elihle Hadebe, Wam’kelwe Khumalo The U15E soccer team had an enjoyable season. They only played one official fixture which they won. The rest of the games were internal and, although these were not competitive fixtures, the boys took them seriously and always had a positive attitude. Special mention must be made of Asavela Khambule and Nathan Stocks, who showed good leadership qualities. Results: Played 1, Won 1 Mr Reece Cairns Coach
