We participated in the Paul Roos Festival in April, and hosted another annual Kearsney Festival in May. KZN tennis trials took place in August and, in September, our U15 team participated in a top schools event hosted by Waterkloof in Pretoria. This year was the 25th edition of the annual Kearsney Tennis Festival. The Spar Group sponsored the festival, with Wilson and Sportsmans Warehouse assisting with prizes and stringing rackets. We are fortunate to have Spar committed to sponsorship for 2022. The exciting line up included: Kearsney College, Paul Roos Gym, Grey College, Afrikaanse Hoër Seunskool (Affies), Pretoria Boys High, Rondebosch Boys High, Westville Boys’ High and Clifton College. Paul Roos were the top seed and beat Grey College in an enthralling final. An Old Boys’ event was held to celebrate the 25 years of success of this tournament. Kearsney won the festival in 1996 and 1997. Darren Clarke and Gareth Collingwood from those strong teams played, as well as Matt Copeland (1997), Brett Veale (1999), Tim Johnson (1999), Colin Corbishley (2000) and Tyrone La Reserveé (2008). In both the Kearsney and Paul Roos events our extremely young Kearsney team performed well, but struggled to win matches against the top schools. In the U15 School Tennis Tournament hosted by Waterkloof in Pretoria, the Kearsney team did very well and finished 6th out of the 14 schools.
