Chronicle-2021

181 180 The Chronicle 2021 Centenary Edition Message from Kearsney College Old Boys President, Wray Radford (Finningley,1989) When Founders Week was cancelled in 2020, we realised that there was a good possibility that COVID was going to play a big part in our Centenary year too. We had to make some important decisions. Should we postpone the Founders Centenary celebrations to another year, or should we plan to forge ahead as best we could under the circumstances at the time? We decided that in true Kearsney spirit, we would not be defeated and that we would plan to have Centenary celebrations however we could, in line with COVID restrictions, and with a safety-first mentality. One thing we knew was that we would have to remain flexible in our planning. Our final call was made about four weeks before our Founders Week, where we decided to decentralise all our functions off campus. Our goal was to have 21 Founders Celebrations around South Africa and the rest of the world. This was a huge task which was boldly taken on by our Alumni Relations Coordinator, Chantal Callaghan, and our Executive team. This turned out to be a fruitful endeavour which has opened better communication channels with our Branch Chairman and new branches, namely Southeast Asia, West Coast of the USA, and the Netherlands. This connected KCOBs across the globe to our branches, all with the common goal of celebrating 100 great years of Kearsney. A special thank you to all the Branch Chairman and the event organisers from around the world - we appreciate your efforts. Thank you also to Ghislaine Riceman (Foundation Director), the KCOB Executive team and the Centenary Golf Committee, chaired by Benji Hector, for all your hard work. Last and certainly not least, thank you to Chantal Callaghan (KCOB Coordinator) for all her hard work - a lot of the credit for a successful year must go to her. At the 2021 KCOB Annual General Meeting we welcome Brett Gray (Finningley, 1986) to the Fundraising portfolio and the following executives were re-elected: Wray Radford (Finningley, 1989), President Iain Meaker (Gillingham, 1987), Vice President and Communications Benji Hector (Gillingham, 1997), Treasurer Sisanda Linda (Finningley, 2009), Transformation and Inclusion Kevin Phillips (Finningley, 1986), Durban KCOB Branch, Parents Society and Ambassadors Etienne Fynn (Pembroke, 1989), Networking Stephen Tedder (Finningley, 2014), Community and Prayer Mhlangenkululeko Siwisa (Finningley, 2001), Gauteng Branch Chairman Thank you to this exceptional team for their service over the past two years; the COVID Pandemic has certainly changed the way we operate, but we have successfully navigated this difficult time. We look forward to a fruitful 2022 as the planning for Founders Week and other KCOB Events commence. Carpe Diem Mr Wray Radford KCOB Celebrated Kearsney’s Centenary across the globe COVID did not dampen the spirits of the KCOB as they hosted 23 events around the globe to celebrate Kearsney’s Centenary.
