Chronicle-2021

43 Centenary Edition Finningley House Head of House report We regrettably started the Centenary year on the back foot as we began the school year with the continued effect of the COVID-19 pandemic. The boys in blue nevertheless seized the opportunities presented to them. Despite shortcomings in our attempts to become the leading House in terms of awards, we prevailed in upholding the foundation of brotherhood that separates us from any other House in this fine institution. Going into the second year of COVID, it was clear that as a House, we had one main goal in mind: to maintain the ethos of excellence and tradition that we hold so dear. This was evident by the determination and tenacity shown by each boy in his respective talents. To the prefects, I extend a massive thank you to Ben (d’Avice), Singele (Mkhize), Gontse (Machaba) and Ben (Field) for all their hard work. They were a pillar of strength for me and went the extra mile to ensure that the House was run smoothly. Through grace and gratitude, you have led this House in a way I genuinely admire. The depth of your leadership has left a mark by you honing your capabilities and demonstrating the traits and values needed to take on the responsibilities bestowed upon you. To the Finningley Matrics, our time on the hill has come to an end and together we have created a bond that cannot be broken and memories we will never forget. As the Class of 2021 we encountered numerous challenges never experienced before and created a group of Kearsney boys willing to adapt to whatever life may throw their way. You showed courage when tackling any obstacle with vigour. The way you engaged your passions for the betterment of the House must be commended. The leadership of the Grade 12s should also be congratulated. They guided and represented the House with enthusiasm and set a high standard for lower forms to follow. Finally, to the junior boys, the next generation of Finningley, we appreciate your efforts and eagerness to be involved in every aspect of the House. We are excited to see you embrace the roles we left for you to fulfil. I thank Mr Beaumont and the duty staff, Mr Waldburger, Mr Alborough and Mr Savage-Reid. They guided us through our time in the House and helped create a comfortable environment where we enjoyed our time. Finally, to Mr Waldburger, Josh Owen and his prefect body and the Matrics of 2022, I wish you all the best for the year ahead. I have no doubt that the class of 2021 are leaving Finningley in good hands and that you will lead the House in an outstanding manner. Per ardua ad victoriam. Prince Dube
