However, it was not to be. There were two weeks of online schooling before we could get back into the Houses and start the year. This seemed quite surreal. But before long, the sound of laughter broke the silence throughout the House as boys returned to the Hill. The resilience of our boys was terrific; they took the changes in their stride and got stuck in on their return. After not being able to compete for Inter-house trophies in 2020, most of the events were back up for grabs. Winning the inter-house cricket put us in good standing- this was our year. Our tennis players played well and made the House proud. Flexing our muscles, we toppled the opposition with our tug-of-war team. We won the interhouse public speaking competition, showing that Pembroke is not just brawn. Pembroke’s academics blew the other Houses away, and we comfortably won the Parkes trophy with Ben Oellermann, Ben Robertson and Matthew Jacobs taking 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in the Grade, respectively. Unfortunately, this was not enough to take the top spot, and we came in second place. This year was a massive year for the Pembroke Matrics, boasting 11 prefects across the board, representing the Cottage, House and Haley. A big thanks to Mhleli (Khuzwayo) and the Haley prefects for their continued support of the House. Thanks also to our Head of House, Ryan (Wimbush), for his unwavering morale in the House. Thanks also to the prefects, Ben (Robertson), Calvin (Davis), Kade (Arnot) and Matthew (Jacobs) for leading the House so well and for their neversay-die attitude and drive, which motivated the rest of the House to not give up. The entire Matric body bought into their enthusiasm and led from the front. They worked hard and restored most of the traditions that were sidelined in 2020 due to COVID regulations. They have ensured that Pembroke boys will keep their heads high for years to come. The Pembroke pride is shining through. Special thanks must go to my Assistant Housemaster, Mr Adrian Ryan, and duty masters, Mr Andy Morgan, and Mr Jon Robinson for their tremendous support and assistance. It was a pleasure to work with them and I am pleased that they will all remain as duty staff next year. Siyahola Nyalo Mr Stafford Green Housemaster, Mr Green
