Chronicle-2021

51 Centenary Edition Haley House Head of House report Having had the privilege to end my Kearsney career in Haley House, where my journey began, will always be something special to me. Returning to Haley as the Head of House has given me a chance to reflect on my time at the College. I realise how much I have developed as a person, to the point where I am now the one to share the wisdom I have gained over the past five years. Haley will forever be engraved in my heart with both old and new memories. Memories that can never be taken away and I’d like to thank everyone involved for all the laughs and good times we shared. 2021 was a year of new beginnings for the Grade 8s, who were introduced to the Kearsney College environment during the pandemic. Through the many lockdowns and disruptions throughout the year the boys remained hopeful and got to experience a taste of what Kearsney is about. The boys dug deep as they pushed boundaries and discovered new talents. On behalf of the House and my deputies I would like to thank Mr Badenhorst gratefully and sincerely for his involvement in Haley House. He is always around, and his presence is appreciated. Mr Badenhorst ran the House this year with a perfect balance of discipline, fun and order. He has taught the prefects invaluable lessons from leadership and patience to mentorship. To Mr Zungu, Mr Deponselle and Mr Roos: thank you for your guidance and support throughout the year and for the time you have devoted to the House and the College. It has been an honour to lead under such a strong group of duty staff and to learn great lessons from each of these teachers. We also wish Mr Deponselle the best as he embarks on a new chapter outside the walls of Haley House. To Mr Mtshali, Haley House welcomes you and wishes the best during your tenure in the House. Haley House has a way of bringing people together. It turns friends into brothers. Without having my six unique and entertaining prefects, the year would not have been as enjoyable and manageable. Thank you Thoba (Buthelezi), Bryce (van der Merwe), Nic (van Heerden), Connor (Soulsby), Jens (Otto) and Matt (McMurray). You were superb role models to the Grade 8s and great ambassadors for Kearsney. Thank you for the memories and for the endless banter. To end off I would like to thank the boys of Haley House. Each and every one of you proved yourself as Kearsney boys. Use what you learned throughout your time in Haley House and continue to learn, grow and make positive contributions towards the College. Make use of the endless opportunities this school provides as these will provide you with the foundations for life. We trust that when we return as Old Boys you will continue to carry the Kearsney College spirit and take the school to new heights. Kwazi Moyo Grade 8 Tie Ceremony Haley House hike Orientation week
