Chronicle-2021

135 Centenary Edition Under 16B Hockey Regular players: Alessandro Ancillotti, Yuvaan Arbee (Goalkeeper), Andrew Aspinall (Captain), Kyle Berry, Ryan Browning, Michael de Beer, Caleb Fyvie, Liam Johnson, Otsile Ntsele, Jack O’Donovan, Brett Parkinson, Tristan Peatt, Jack Reid, Troy Taylor Unfortunately, this season was a curtained one. We only played four matches, but we played excellent hockey. Had we played more matches, we would have been able to improve our skills and score more goals, but we trained hard and played hard and grew as individuals and as a team. We beat St Charles College 4-0, lost to Hilton 0-4, beat Michaelhouse 2-0, and drew 0-0 with Northwood. In all these games, the boys played constructively and aggressively attacking hockey. It was beautiful to watch. I would like to thank the parents for their support this year. Even though the season was cut short and they could not spectate, I had no doubt that we had their support. Results: Played 4, Won 2, Lost 1 Mr Adrian Ryan Coach Under 16C Hockey Regular players: Bryce Blomquist, Oliver Brazier, Ryan Browning, Julian Carbonel, Sean Diseko (Captain), Keegan Gevers, Tom Godwin, Dhiyarv Govender, Reuel Jagarnath, Connor Mills, Jadon Moodley, Otsile Ntsele, James Peirson, Ryan Smith, Dylan can Schoor, Jua can Wyk, Nhlendla Zulu The 2021 season was characterised by a willingness and enthusiasm to play good hockey but a rusty skill set and a lack of positional discipline let the team down. The season began with a solid draw to St Charles in a typically feisty encounter. Faced with a barrage of attacks against Hilton in the next match, the team was very close to holding on for a creditable draw, but a single defensive lapse was our undoing, and we lost by a solitary goal. The next fixture at Michaelhouse saw a very open game with multiple chances at both ends. Sadly Michaelhouse emerged victorious, scoring 3 goals to Kearsney’s 2. What would ultimately be the season’s final game was played away against Northwood. The team’s attack worked well with some handy midfield dynamism from Sean Diseko and a solid base created by Otsile Ntsele in the centre. The wide attackers were picked out with precise passing. Finally, the team played as they wanted to- with aggression and high energy, which resulted in two open field goals. The personnel across the four games played was varied, but those who came into the side played with pride and passion. Special mention should be made of captain Sean Diseko for his runs from deep and robust dribbling. In addition, goalkeeper Reuel Jagarnath, who was often able to keep the team in the game with his fearless shotstopping, was superb. It is a pity we couldn’t ride the wave of momentum we had begun to create. Results: Played 4, Won 1, Lost 2, Drew 1 Mr Matt Saville Coach Under 16D Hockey Regular players: Alex Gordon, Eric Anderson, Lwandile Khoza, Ethan Marnitz, Jaydon Moodley, Dylan Van Schoor, Luke Emmanuel, Craig Gill, Rehan Khan, Daniel Schneemann, Chad Wilson, Kyle Voigts, Thomas Godwin, Pranav Sewsunker, Ayabukwa Skweyiya, Nhlendla Zulu After not much activity due to COVID, the players arrived for the start of the season ready to get going. The first fixture was against a strong St Charles team. Our team was a bit rusty and unsure of players positions and conceded a few early goals. They eventually went down 0- 6. Thereafter we re-structured the team and played a solid Hilton side and improved to lose 1- 4. The players now knew their best positions and duties in the team and could not wait for the next game, which was against Michaelhouse. We played well up front, were dependable at the back and won the encounter 2- 0. The following game was a tussle against Northwood. The opposition finally scored, and we were unable to respond, losing 0-1. Sadly, the pandemic hit again as we were getting our team going, and the season came to an end.
